Simply History Series

These three books provide clear, concise descriptions of the people, places, and events that have shaped world history from the beginning of human civilization to the present.

This series is by no means an authoritative, comprehensive resource. It is intended as a handy and quick review of history highlights, and a useful reference to the names, dates, and sites.

The Simply History series will help you to become more informed about world history and its effects on the world we live in today.

Simply History: Prehistory to the Middle Ages

The first in a series of three accessible world history overviews, Simply History: Prehistory to the Middle Ages reviews the key people, places, and events in the history of the world from the beginning of human life to about 1600. The book also describes how elements of history continue to affect societies around the world today.

As with other books in Walch’s Simply History series, it strives to present a brief, even-handed overview of selected highlights. These include:

  • The Earliest People
  • The Ancient Greeks
  • Ancient India and China
  • The Ancient Romans
  • Europe in the Middle Ages
  • The Middle East and the Rise of Islam
  • South and East Asia
  • Africa and the Americas

Simply History: Renaissance to the Late 1800s

It shows how these elements of history continue to affect societies around the world today. Highlights include:

  • A Rebirth in Europe
  • Asia’s Empires
  • European Exploration and the New World
  • Europe Colonizes the Globe
  • New Ideas Lead to Revolution
  • The Industrial Revolution

  • Imperialism
