VP/Director of Engineering (posted 6/13/18)

Walch Mathematics is revolutionizing mathematics education. We are empowering curriculum leaders and teachers to manage, enhance and develop their own educational resources in a way that improves teacher efficacy and satisfaction, and student outcomes, both out of the gate and over time.

We are hiring an engineering leader to lead the development and launch of this revolutionary concept, the Curriculum Engine. S/he will collaborate with existing Walch Customers, build and lead a product development and engineering team, manage outside resources and be an active participant in company management and strategy.

We need someone who is both an engineer and an architect. Someone who is both a hands-on doer and a manager and leader. Someone who is passionate about education, puts customers first and is a great team player. Someone who is an energetic self-starter and fast learner who wants to work in a fast-paced and family-oriented culture.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Spearheading the design and engineering of our “Curriculum as a Service” platform
  • Building product development organization including architecture and engineering, UIX, content management database, sales engineering and quality assurance
  • Managing pilots and deployments
  • Designing and deploying analytical engine
  • Making a variety of buy/build recommendations with respect to such things as a testing engine and accessibility supports

BS or higher in Computer Science Required.

This is a full stack opportunity, with demonstrable front end end/UIX experience key

Understanding of and experience with engineering and architecting Cloud-based systems and services architectures a must, as is substantial experience with and knowledge of JavaScript, and building and testing JavaScript applications

Experience with educational technology and familiarity with such things as SISs, LTI, Open Roster and other related technologies a plus

15+ years of similar/related experience

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and editing print and digital math resources
  • Helping ensure coherence and alignment across a core curriculum

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree with a mathematics major or minor
  • Teaching experience in a middle or high school math classroom
  • Strong language and writing skills, with a keen editorial eye
  • Comprehension of standards-based instructional needs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word’s editing and formatting features (tracked changes, comments, style sheets, etc.), as well as Adobe Acrobat (familiarity with PDF comment tools a plus)

Graphic Designer/DTP Specialist (posted 3/9/17)

Walch Education is a growing educational publisher delivering custom high-school mathematics curriculum and supplements to school districts across the country.


Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated, quick technical learner to join our fast-paced product development team. In this role, you will work on the layout and customization of long-form mathematics curriculum, including print and digital versioning. This involves using InDesign for layout, correction, and editing of book documents, Illustrator for graph creation and editing, PowerPoint for creating interactive presentations, and other programs for related tasks. We publish using the K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform, and in this position you may have the opportunity to be trained to use and work in this system, ingesting and preparing content for re-purposing to other media channels.

This is NOT a creative position. Though a creative background is necessary, we need someone who is used to repetitive tasks, follows directions, works independently, and has a keen attention to detail.

Job Tasks:

  • Working on-site with Director of Publications and Editorial Director to lay out manuscripts and repurpose existing content into new print and digital publications using the K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform
  • Creating, updating, correcting graphs using Illustrator and other graphing software
  • Creating presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Manipulating PDF content with Acrobat
  • Other tasks as needed
Required Skills:
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat
  • Full understanding of InDesign and its publishing features. This includes the use of master pages, text frames and threading, section markers, and other long-form document features.
  • Prior experience with the K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform, or other publishing CMS
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and problem-solve
  • Strong communication, attention-to-detail, organizational, and prioritization skills

High School Mathematics Freelancers (posted 5/16/16)

Walch Integrated Math is currently seeking strong math educators for freelance work. This includes content development, accuracy review/answer checking, and GeoGebra applet development.

Freelancers work with the support of detailed templates and specifications, and of in-house experts.

Strong content knowledge, familiarity with the Common Core Standards and with standards-based teaching and learning, and the ability to work to specifications and to meet deadlines are requirements of the work. Freelance experience is a plus.
