Walch Multicultural Art Series: The Art of the Near East and Ancient Egypt

The Walch Multicultural Art Series focuses on the native artistic traditions of major regions/cultures throughout the world. The Art of the Near East and Ancient Egypt includes examples from the distant past and today, including ancient Egyptian, Sumerican, Hittite, Assyrian, Phoenician and Persian civilizations, as well as more contemporary Islamic art.

The program includes:

  1. A teacher book with background information, learning activities, and reproducible student pages covering the history, geography, and cultural legacy of the region.
  2. A 47' VHS video exploring the artistic traditions of the Near East.
  3. A set of 10 posters capturing classic artistic images of the region.

Included in the book are complete directions for individual and cooperative group projects, including art-making activities and research projects. Used with the video, these activities encourage your students to investigate the ideas, values, and art forms that arose from varied cultures throughout the Near East and (later) Arab world.
