PORTLAND, ME (August 1, 2016) – Walch Education, the leading publisher of genuine aligned core resources for high school mathematics, is pleased to announce the availability of North Carolina Math 1, 2, and 3 instructional programs.
Walch’s North Carolina Math 1, 2, and 3 is a comprehensive, convenient, and supportive program comprised of teacher resources available in “draft” print form and/or via Instructure’s Canvas, unit assessments available in online and pencil/paper formats, and consumable student workbooks. The resources are centered around problem-based tasks and provide a variety of options for teachers and students.
Approval of new North Carolina Math standards was announced on June 6 by the State Board of Education. The Walch Education team has been working closely with instructional leaders at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for more than 6 months in anticipation of this decision to address the clear-cut need for aligned instructional resources for the coming school year.
“Comprehensive, convenient, and aligned resources, research shows, contribute to improved learner outcomes in a number of ways,” says Jill Rosenblum, Walch’s VP of Education:
- They support district efforts to implement best practices in instruction and to employ rigorous, aligned content consistently and at scale.
- They allow teachers to focus their efforts on the dynamic process of instruction, rather than on finding or developing materials piecemeal, reducing teacher dissatisfaction and turnover.
- They engage students and foster persistence and problem solving, thereby improving outcomes.
Joanne Whitley, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ Secondary Math Specialist notes, “We have worked closely with Walch over a number of years and appreciate their agility and willingness to partner directly with us to develop and refine mathematics materials. We believe that tailored resources are much more effective than the ‘one size fits all’ textbooks of the past and our teams have been collaborating effectively to be ready for the school year.”
“We’d like to thank our strong CMS team of teacher leaders for the extensive work they’ve done since the inception of this project,” said Hema Lalwani, Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Secondary Math Coordinator. “Their work has exceeded expectations and we believe will improve substantially the quality of the resources our teachers will have at hand in 2016/17 and beyond.”
Walch provides high school math resources in states and to districts where off-the-shelf resources won’t suffice. “We build long-term relationships with our district partners and states, and have worked hard to assemble a team and related technologies to understand, add value to, and provide tools to implement a vision of instruction that is suited to local needs,” says Al Noyes, Walch’s President. “More and more over the past few years we have found that school districts are dissatisfied with the static, transaction-focused practices of other, often larger, publishers. Word of mouth is growing, and we are delighted to do our part to help progressive school districts do more to support mathematics teaching and learning.”
