Students aren't always ready for high school math. Texas Introduction to High School Math is designed for Texas 8th and 9th grade students who need additional preparation, including students who score a '1' on 8th grade STAAR and those taking STAAR Modified. It’s also ideal for SSI (Student Success Initiative) requirements. This course can be used as follow-up for Foundations of Algebra or as stand-alone preparation for high school math.

Lessons and activities engage students with important concepts in a purposeful three-step sequence, from concrete experiences to reasoning discussions and activities, to communication and representation of the mathematics.

The program includes various hands-on activities that generate data and create models that allow students to explore, develop and reinforce fundamental math concepts.

Texas Introduction to High School Math has nine units:

  1. Different Forms of Numbers
  2. Everything Based on Tens
  3. Simplifying Algebraic Expressions and Solving Equations
  4. Linear Functions
  5. Translating Verbal Problems into Equations
  6. Solving Inequalities
  7. Working with Data
  8. Simplifying Polynomials
  9. Working with Radicals

The program is delivered in 2 three-ring binders that include:

  • Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for each unit
  • 90 days’ worth of lessons and activities, Essential Standards and Clarifying Objectives, Words to Know and Warm-ups
  • Direct and guided instruction, worksheets and activity templates.
  • Formative assessment journal prompts, unit assessments and answer keys.
