South Carolina Academic Support Program Social Studies, Grade 8

Economically priced, as low as $15.80 per student! The South Carolina Academic Support Program Social Studies Grade 8 ("ASP") is perfect for summer school or targeted intervention during the school year. As a complete, turnkey solution for improving educational performance, the ASP targets striving students and diverse classrooms.

Developed in partnership with Richland County School District One, the ASP recognizes that many students aren't reached by traditional "skill and drill" or strict test-prep approaches. For these students, the ASP includes components that review, instruct as needed, provide practice, and assess students' skills.

The sturdy 3-ring binder includes:

  • More than 45 hours of lessons with reproducible activity sheets
  • Time lines showing key events in U.S. History and World History
  • Maps with accompanying activities
  • Embedded questions to activate prior knowledge and engage critical thinking
  • Review and reinforcement activity sheets to assess and document achievement
  • Word puzzles to engage and motivate learners while reinforcing new vocabulary
  • A supportive teacher's guide that:
    • describes the purpose of the materials and options for using the package
    • provides pacing guide options
    • references specific standards
    • recommends an assortment of graphic organizers for instructional use
    • includes reproducible maps

The ASP is completely reproducible. Use it to review, instruct as needed, provide practice, and assess your students' skills.

  • The Teacher's Guide helps you navigate the materials with the pacing guide, offers graphic organizers and suggested strategies for their use, and shows how the lessons correlate to the South Carolina Social Studies Academic Standards identified by Richland One for summer school instruction.

  • Parts 1 and 2 focus on content-area strategies for vocabulary and reading within Social Studies. These sections address social studies in terms of a set of integrated skills and strategies that work together to help students read, write, speak, and think critically.

  • Parts 3 and 4 focus on content and knowledge of U.S. History. These can be implemented as outlined in the pacing guide, yet the design is flexible so that you can mix and match sections and units as the needs of your students and your instructional style dictate.

  • Part 5 contains a collection of group activities. These suggested activities provide students with enrichment experiences related to map skills, hands-on applications, research, reporting, and more.
