PORTLAND, ME (February 16, 2017) — Walch High School Math announced today that their Georgia Standards of Excellence High School Math resources are available for the 2017–2018 school year.
The program includes a complete set of teacher resources and student workbooks that are aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II. These new programs complement Walch’s best selling CCGPS Coordinate Algebra, Analytic Geometry and Advanced Algebra resources.
“Our GSE high school math curriculum resources, including our flexible and supportive problem-based design, came initially from work we did in Georgia almost 10 years ago,” says Al Noyes, Walch’s president. “We are pleased to continue our commitment to supporting Georgia Math educators with these new GSE resources.”
Walch’s new GSE Geometry, GSE Algebra I and GSE Algebra II courses include components that support problem-based learning, instruct and coach as needed, provide practice, and assess students’ skills. Options for remediation and enrichment are included in the program to address a wide range of students’ needs. GSE-aligned pre- and post assessments and interactive student worksheets, all with technology-enhanced items, are also available online.
“Teachers and students need resources that are aligned to their standards. As an example, GSE Algebra I requires that linear, algebraic and quadratic functions are taught separately, and then compared and contrasted later in the course, unlike what's required by the CCSS,” says Joanne Whitley, Walch’s Senior Director of Mathematics and Professional Development. “It’s critical that teachers have resources that faithfully follow these guidelines from the Georgia Department of Education, both standards and practices, as ours do. Data shows that student outcomes improve as a result.”
