High Schools in Georgia Transitioning to Georgia Standards of Excellence, and away from Integrated Math

PORTLAND, ME (March 8, 2016) – In a February 2016 survey of close to 50 school districts and curriculum leaders Walch discovered a significant decrease in systems planning to offer Integrated Math next year (e.g. Coordinate Algebra, Analytic Geometry and Advanced Algebra) and an equivalent increase in those planning to offer courses following a traditional Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 sequence.

Moreover, the greatest increase was indicated for those planning to offer Geometry, which almost doubles from this year:

HS Math Courses Offering '16/17
CCGPS Courses -35%
Traditional Pathway  35%
Geometry Specifically (inc support) 121%

Notably, satisfaction levels among those school districts using Walch were significantly higher than among those using other resources for High School Math:

Satisfaction with Existing HS Math Resources Walch Non Walch
Average respondent (1=not, 10=super) 5.9 4.6
Pct satisfied or very satisfied 64% 35%

Finally, the need for resources buildt for the Georgia Standards of Excellence was overwhelming, with 85% of respondents saying GSE was “extremely important” for the 2016/2017 school year.
