Working in small groups to understand Common Core mathematics better
The research is in: students make sense of mathematical problems best when they work in small groups, with hands-on experiences that echo real-world situations. Thatís why Algebra 1 Station Activities for Common Core State Standards has proven so popular. Students learn to apply algebra concepts, employ problem-solving strategies, communicate with one another, and reason through to the answers while working together.

This book contains 26 sets of activities focusing on Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions and Statisitcs and Probability taught in Algebra I courses. Each set consists of four different stations where students work in small groups, moving from station to station once their activities are complete.
According to Jill Rosenblum, Walch Educationís Vice President of Education, ďStation-based activities give students multiple opportunities to develop their understanding. At the same time, they give teachers the chance to circulate, do informal assessments, and provide individual or small-group instruction as needed."
- 26 sets of activities, each with 4 separate stations
- 10-15 minutes per station followed by a debrief discussion
- Correlated to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, complementing any math program
- Use readily available materials and manipulatives (not included)
Includes teacher support with discussion guides (prompts to encourage reflection and synthesis of ideas, suggested appropriate responses, and a listing of common errors and misconceptions identified in current research), answer keys, and material lists.
